“When marketers try to communicate their “why,” they’re often at a loss for words because they’re trying to get it right. But it isn’t about getting it right, it’s about finding what’s connected to who you are.”
Nicole Easton (2:39 - 2:58)
Why You Need to Create an Authentic Message
If you’ve been in network marketing for any length of time, you’ve probably been asked to think about your “why” when creating a message to connect with your audience and your prospects. The problem many marketers run into when creating their message is that they immediately start talking about their product and opportunity. They try to get it “right,” but they’re at a loss for words and they find that they’re not connecting with their real story.
It isn’t about getting it right. It’s about the story that is connected to who you are and the impact that you want to have through your business. It’s about connecting to how you’re created and your unique strengths. The closer your message is to your story, the more significant your impact will be, and you’ll be able to create an authentic and purpose-driven business.
“The closer you get to who you are and how you’re created in your strengths, the clearer your messaging will be, and the bigger the impact you’re going to have.” - Nicole Easton (2:59 - 3:08)
3 Tips for Crafting a Compelling Message
Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating an authentic message to connect with your audience.
Find Your Hidden Strengths - We’ve all had to overcome difficult situations in our lives at one point or another. Hidden in these difficulties are compelling stories that you can use in your message to connect with your audience at an emotional level. Maybe there are things in your past that didn’t turn out the way you wanted, and you had to re-imagine your life and your priorities. When people learn about such aspects of your story, they’ll see you as more than merely a marketer, and they’ll be more likely to join you on your mission.
Connect the Outer with the Inner - Marketers often tend to focus solely on external problems. For example, they might try to focus on their audience’s issues around money, looks, lifestyle, etc. But they might ignore the emotional issues that are the real cause of the outer symptoms. For example, as a network marketer, your problem might be that you’re uncomfortable talking to your friends and family about your business. However, the real inner issue is that you feel inauthentic when you do it. Try to dig into your inner self and find out what really drives you as you’re creating your message.
Speak the Language of Your Audience - When your audience reads your message, you want them to feel as if you’re speaking directly to them. Once you know your avatar, you can do some market research to learn about their problems and the way they express themselves. Equipped with that knowledge, you can craft your message to reflect their language and tone.
“You have to do the inner work and figure out how you're going to communicate your opportunity in a way that resonates with your audience emotionally.” - Brooke Elder (8:59 -9:10)
The foundations of fantastic marketing are learning about your audience, crafting an authentic message that reflects the real you, and communicating it in a way that speaks to your audience.
Your challenge for this week is to assess your inner and outer traits, and find the strengths hidden in your story.
You have a movement that is worth following. It’s time to get your message to align with who YOU are so that your clients, customers, family, and friends can get on board.
